Nintendo have announced that everyone's favourite plumber will be returning to the 3DS this summer, alongside his perennially unsung brother Luigi, in New Super Mario Bros. 2. The upcoming side-scroller is set for release this August.
"New Super Mario Bros. 2 is a traditional side-scrolling adventure game featuring Mario, Luigi and loads of other favorite characters from the popular Mario series," said Nintendo. "The game was created specifically as a pick-up-and-play experience that can be instantly enjoyed by players of all skill levels on the Nintendo 3DS system. The game will launch across North America in August."
Nintendo also confirmed that there would be a firmware update coming for the 3DS, arriving in Europe on April 25th. It'll not only add folder support to the system menu, but also allow for game patching too, with the first patch to see Mario Kart 7 updated to remove the shortcut exploit glitch from the Wuhu Island circuit. That particular fix will land in mid-May.
