From Mass Effect Tiny Text to Sony's $18 PS3 Loss - News Roundup 6th Feb 2010

In today’s news roundup, project Manager Mike Gamble confirms there is nothing Bioware can do for players experiencing Mass Effect 2 tiny text (but insists the company will do their best not to repeat the mistake when developing ME3). It’s a sad day for Bungie after Microsoft announces the permanent shut down of all original Xbox games on Xbox Live. Lastly, a report by kotaku argues that Sony is still losing money on every PS3 sold.

BioWare says there’s no fix for tiny text in Mass Effect 2

If you’ve just bought a copy of Mass Effect 2 but found yourself succumbing to migraines after straining to read the tiny in game text, then bad news. According to Bioware, there’s simply no way of providing a patch or update that will enable gamers with standard definition televisions to see the on-screen copy with a bit more clarity. Writing on one of the official Mass Effect 2 forums, Project Manager Mike Gamble stated: ‘After investigating potential solutions, we have determined that while this issue does affect a small portion of SDTV owners, we are unable to resolve it for Mass Effect 2 through a title update.’

So it seems the only option available for all us paupers who can’t afford high definition is to keep a packet of Ibuprofen close to hand and just grit your teeth and bear it. ‘While this was not an intentional result, it was a byproduct of the enhancements to the user interface’ Gamble added, before saying that hopefully, the issue should be resolved by the time Mass Effect 3 gets released sometime in 2012 – which is good to know. Bungie “saddened” by Halo 2 multiplay demise

From Mass Effect Tiny Text to Sony's PS3 Loss - News Roundup 6th Feb 2010

All good things must come to an end, and with just ten weeks to go before Xbox Live permanently pulls the plug on all original Xbox games, it’s difficult not to feel a slight twinge of sadness. Indeed, Halo developers Bungie say they will be mourning the loss, but admit how proud they feel after the spectacular reign of HALO 2 which has pretty much dominated the Live Charts since its release five years ago. Microsoft announced that all original Xbox games including all servers linked to the Xbox Originals service on the 360 will be permanently shut down on April 15th. [Digital Spy]

Sony Losing Money On Every PS3 Sold

From Mass Effect Tiny Text to Sony's PS3 Loss - News Roundup 6th Feb 2010

Sony’s financial report for the last quarter of 2009 saw a dramatic rise in console sales – around 44 per cent – with the company shifting some 6.5 million consoles compared with 4.5 the previous year. However, according to a report on kotaku (which has certainly stirred some controversy) the company are still losing around $18 from every PS3 sold. Apparently this figure stood at $37 before Sony was able to take advantage of a recent decline in the cost of components. By 2011, argue kotaku, the company will have finally reached the point where they’ll see a return on every console sold. [kotaku]

Not a good week for console gamers, I'm surprised Halo 2 is being killed after just five years but I guess that's the price you pay for cutting off backwards compatibility so often.

As for mass effect, you could always look at plugging it into your computer monitor, the Xbox 360 supports VGA, HDMI and DVI (via the HDMI output).

I'm a little sad at the fact that Microsoft put lots of xbox games up for download then take the online parts away. Plus the fact that the best online game in the world ever, Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory will be killed off. Barstardos.

Had the text problem with GTA 4 on my SD TV, so I went and got a HDTV for my wedding present :)

oh and you can still play Halo 2 on XBConnect www.xbconnect.com enjoy.

SD TV and next gen consoles don't mix, if you haven't got an HDTV or getting one soon then don't expect text in next gen games to be clear, you need to stick to the Wiis low definition graphics..

There is strong rumour that Mass Effect 1 and 2 will be out in December 2010 instead of 2009 (because of COD6) for Superior Console ....the PS3. Lets hope its true, I have PS3 , but where Stars Wars Knights of Republic , wheres Mass Effect....its so sad...but it will happen...the question is When !?

Its doesnt come out, do go purchase 360, the family has a WII (like most of the world), but what happening to us....I we meant to get all 3 console performs, isnt suppose to be a credit crunch ......

Never try playing Guitar Hero on the Wii though...you can't read the lyrics.

That had been explained by the developers, the Unreal Engine is cross platform so it has PS3 code in it, they still deny a PS3 version.
