UPDATE: Rockstar has confirmed that Max Payne 3's console versions will release on May 18th in Europe, and the PC version June 1st.
Rockstar has announced that Max Payne 3 will miss its March release date by a couple of months, and will instead take aim at an unspecified date in May. This brings the anticipated shooter into line with Rockstar's traditional launch window, since both GTA V and L.A. Noire released at a similar time, and also takes it out of Mass Effect 3's firing line.
The short delay has apparently been taken to "ensure that Max Payne 3 delivers," and we've got more details after the break.
In the press release, Take-Two chairman Strauss Zelnick explains that they're confident of Max Payne 3's quality despite needing a couple more months to polish it up.
We do not take changes to our release schedule lightly, and this short delay will ensure that Max Payne 3 delivers the highest quality, groundbreaking entertainment experience that is expected from our Company. Max Payne 3 promises to be one of our most exciting releases to date, and we are confident that consumers will once again be amazed by Rockstar's ability to take interactive entertainment to another level.
"With Max Payne 3 now slated for May, our robust lineup of upcoming releases for fiscal 2013 is even stronger, including BioShock Infinite, Borderlands 2, Spec Ops: The Line, XCOM, XCOM: Enemy Unknown, and other titles yet to be announced for release that year. - Strauss Zelnick, Chairman and CEO of Take-Two
Rockstar will be releasing more intel later today, and we'll keep you posted.
