Maxis Show Off The GlassBox Engine For SimCity

First Look At Gameplay Mechanics

Building upon the recent announcement that SimCity will be returning next year, publishers EA are releasing a series of trailers that take an in-depth look at what to expect from the city-building simulation game. The first instalment of the Insider’s Look videos, narrated by Gameplay Lead Designer Dan Moskowitz, shows off the GlassBox engine that will be powering the game.

The focus on resources and 1-to-1 visual representation is an interesting move for SimCity to go in, adding to the already intricate mechanics existing for the game. While the art used in the video doesn't represent the final look, it does give us a sense of what to expect from a visual standpoint, and we now know we will be able to expand buildings such as fire stations for the first time (and not have to spam them across the map to cover everywhere.) Expect more Insider’s Look videos to give us further insight about the upcoming SimCity game in the weeks to come.
