Piranha Plumps For Crysis 2 Tech
The long-awaited next MechWarrior title - which, by the way, will be a free-to-play online affair - has taken yet another encouraging step forward in development, with developers Piranha Games opting for Crytek's CryEngine 3 tech to power their robot-battering visuals. The news comes from Crytek themselves, who've been securing a number of engine partnerships of late as the company looks to emulate Epic's success with their own titular engine.
It's great news, especially when you consider you won't be paying a single penny to appreciate those visuals. According to Crytek, MechWarrior Online is a "step up to offer true AAA quality to gamers". Set for release on PC in 2012, its the first MechWarrior title in almost ten years. As for Crytek's CryEngine 3, the company claims over 20 other free-to-play titles in development have plumped for their tech, including their own title Warface. [Eurogamer]
