Metal Gear's 25th Anniversary event promised to 'shake up' the games industry, and its biggest announcement may be set to do just that. According to reports from attendees, Kojima Productions revealed the next Metal Gear Solid title: an open world stealth experience running in the new Fox Engine.
So far, the announcement only exists in the form of several tweets and a leaked image, which paint the picture of a fully open-world experience where Snake (Big Boss) can fully explore the environments to advantage. Considering the name of the project, we can probably assume that Major Zero and the Patriots will play a key role in the storyline.
"Demo of "Metal Gear Solid Ground Zeroes", started w cutscene (all realtime), went into gameplay, open world, night, raining, base. AMAZING," tweeted 8-4's Mark MacDonald. "Snake crawled @ avoiding searchlights, killed guard, rode jeep, called in heli for evac. Sounds like MG, but the scale & atmosphere... Wow."
The project was shown running on PC using Kojima Production's much-vaunted Fox Engine. "Metal Gear Solid Ground Zeroes demo was truly amazing, running on a PC at current-gen specs. Wow," tweeted a fellow attendee.
The leaked artwork (included in full below) shows Big Boss sporting his MSF patch, toting night vision tech and standing dramatically in the heavy rain mentioned in several tweets. A photograph of a publicity poster from the event [thanks Kotaku] has been added above.
Kojima Productions will likely provide an official reveal very soon, and we suspect that it will be followed by a few previews from major Japanese sites. Watch this space.
