MGS 5: Ground Zeroes Gets PS4-Exclusive Content... Or Should That Be PS1 Content?

Metal Gear 5 may be multi-platform, but Kojima and Sony are still the best of buddies. Nothing says "I love you" like fat sacks of cash, after all. Today brings us the news that the PS4 version of Metal Gear Solid 5: Ground Zeroes will contain an exclusive flashback mission that lets us play as... Solid Snake. As in, the original Solid Snake. From the PS1. Low-poly model and all.

It's a fun little feature, at least judging by the trailer below that's stuffed with cameos (ooh look, the Darpa Chief!) - though it might feel strange to hear Kiefer Sutherland doing the VO. In case that's not enough, we've also got some more gameplay footage, because SNAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAKE?!!

Neat, huh? The Deja Vu mission seems to be pure fan service, running the FOX Engine compete with photo-realistic environments, but featuring the classic/primitive  character models of old. We don't know how long it will last, mind, or whether it will warrant the additional £10 expense of buying a next-gen copy rather than getting it on PS3 or Xbox 360 version.

Can we have the entire game rebuilt in the FOX Engine please, Kojima? Pretty please? I'll be good, honest.

Not enough for you? Fine. Here's the TGS demo footage that Konami released a couple of months ago, but redubbed with English commentary.

Metal Gear Solid 5: Ground Zeroes will act as an extended prologue of sorts for The Phantom Pain, arriving next spring on PS3, Xbox 360, PS4 and Xbox One.

Loved MGS1, quite enjoyed MSG2, gave up on MGS3 about a quarter of the way in. I'd love a remake (or even a direct port/emulation) of the MGS1 on next gen.

Yeah, MGS 1 was the pinnacle of the series for me, and it could have easily stood alone IMO. Superb storyline, tight action, great set pieces, thought-provoking (rather than incomprehensible) themes and an ending that I still remember moment by moment.

PS1 games are practically impossible to remaster in HD, so they'd have to remake in the FOX Engine. Which would be absolutely fine by me. That said, it works brilliantly on Vita.

EDIT: Don't get me wrong, I've enjoyed every MGS game since (Snake Eater and the Ac!d series especially - the PSP strategy/card hybrids were insane), but nowhere near as much.

Such a lame announcement. "Congratulations on buying a PS4 and MGS5, now play as snake in awful graphics".

When he said "deja vu mission" I was hoping it would be a little remake of the first Shadow Moses bit in the slick new graphics.
