Microsoft Accepts 'Xbone' Moniker: "It's A Clever Use Of The Name"

If you can't beat them, join them. Despite Larry "Major Nelson" Hyrb kicking up a fuss over the "disrespectful" Xbox One nickname -- Xbone -- Microsoft Studios boss Phil Spencer has made peace with the moniker, suggesting that it's "going to stick."

“At first, I guess the thing that bugged me the most is I didn’t see it,” Spencer told GameSpot. “I’d been looking at the name for Xbox One for months, and I wasn’t clever enough to merge them and come up with Xbone.

“I think it’s going to stick. I think we can say we don’t like it as much as we want, but it’s a clever use of the name. Probably not the most flattering name, but I think it’s going to be there.”

Yes, yes it will. With luck, Microsoft's machine will impress enough for Xbone to become an affectionate nickname, if not replaced by something cooler. As a Battlestar Galactica fan, Carl suggests "XO."

Since Microsoft owns the xbone.com domain, they're perfectly placed to franchise it.

Usually companies do check for ways a name can be used negatively, I guess someones **** got chewed over this.

I still find calling it Xbox One a stupid move, seeing how that is what everyone I know calls the first Xbox.

Should have just called it "Xbox For All" so it would have been called Xbox 4 to compete with the PS4 and been done with it.

Xbox For All - AKA, the Xbox **** All. See how hard it is to create something that isn't problematic?

Haha, true dat... but I did zero checking of this name I thought up on the spot and I have no money / reputation riding on it.

Should have just called it the Xbox 720... What do I win?

How about giving it a tail and calling it the FoxBox. Alternatively it could come with a live fox trapped in side to make it even more 'edgy' and 'cool'.

...or if they are concerned abou the PR war against Sony's spec, they could use The Xbox VHS (Very High Specification).

....How about the mix of athleticism and machismo by slamming a cool sport like 'Triathalon' into the robust values of 'Hardness' to create the "XBox Tri-Hard".......(I'll get me coat).
