Microsoft Buys 'Disrespectful' Xbone.com Domain

Just a quickie: Fusible reports that Microsoft has officially purchased the Xbone.com domain, following the moniker catching on scant hours after the May reveal event.

Microsoft PR man Larry "Major Nelson" Hyrb previously described the term as somewhat insulting on NeoGAF. “I don’t like it…it disrespects the teams that have put in thousands of hours (already) into the development of the product," he wrote. "Sure, it’s cheeky but I don’t care for it myself.” We find that "Xbone" flows off the tongue rather nicely, to be honest, but will we still be saying it a year from now? If we are, at least they'll have the website ready.

Hope someone made a nice wedge out of this :D

How the heck did they think we'd say it. How can not one of the highly paid consultants/executives not spot this. Xbone it is and Xbone its staying in my mind.

GetsugaTenshoS  Sep. 12, 2013 at 12:25

I hope most people won't be saying "Xbone" a year from now. I think it sounds dumb.

I'm confused the picture clearly shows XBONE? if they didn't like the phrase maybe they should of put a space between the B and the O ? XB ONE Or .. XBOX1 or XB1 ?

Hopefully they don't have issues with the hardware because the word "Xboned" will be used extensively.

@Tsung: Heh, the banner is actually photoshopped for comedic effect. The original publicity shot clearly shows "Xbox One."

With so much media on the Xbox and Microsoft it's all a blur now, whats real, whats not.

In the PS4 vs Xb1 war; I think Xbox is clearly winning. Not a day goes by without at least 1 xbox story. Doesn't matter if it's news or not, they keep pushing them out there. Whilst Sony sits quietly at the side, carrying on doing whatever it's doing.

Sony will lose the important sales this Christmas, that being the parents of the children who want the latest console. It just doesn't pop up enough in the news to feature on anybodies radar.

There's no denying Microsoft are ahead in terms of staying in the news in recent months - but I doubt they're ahead in pre-orders.
In fact I imagine they're a long way behind. I wouldn't be surprised to hear ps4 is outselling xb1 by at least 2:1
Of course we can only speculate since Microsoft are keeping schtum about it. (lol @ spell check wanting to correct "schtum" to "scrotum".)

Hopefully I'm wrong and the xb1 is competing much better. Two (or more) different machines each with a large user base is the most healthy scenario and most benefits all gamers.

There'll most likely be a huge geographical divide between the fanbases with the PS4 dominating Asia and the Xbone (don't tell me that MS people didn't call it that - just not in front of the suits) dominating North America - the battle will be won in Europe where Sony, by MSs own admission, holds the upper ground.

I'm with Late on this one, it benefits everybody to see two strong consoles - now if only Ninty can sort their Wii U woes.

Anyone else checked their commerce.microsoft.com recently to see when their microsoft points that became money is set to expire?

That whole June 2015 that they have in their FAQ and that the whole media has been briefed about is a lie. I got an email that some was expiring in October, so I went to see and found there was an even larger amount expiring in just 2 weeks that I did not get an email about and wasn't mentioned in the email I did get.

I have about 9 different expiration dates for my money up until the final few pence at June 2015.

How does this change affect me?

You’ll use local currency or an Xbox Gift Card (denominated in your local currency), in addition to other current payment methods available in your region, to purchase your favorite content on your Xbox 360. The next time you initiate a purchase or redeem a Microsoft Points card or code on your console with your Microsoft account, we’ll add to your account an amount of currency equal to or greater than the Marketplace value of your Microsoft Points, and your Microsoft Points will be retired. The currency we add to your account at the time of the transition will expire on June 1, 2015. However, the currency you purchase and add to your account after the transition will not expire.

Why is it disrespectful, exactly?

My expiry dates look fine, Korma.

I had £32 at the time of transfer (formerly approx 3700 msp). I bought a game for a fiver yesterday, and added a tenner today, so have £37.
My expiry dates show as:
Promotional Balance Expiration
£10.20 GBP 12/09/2014
£26.97 GBP 01/06/2015

Might be best to contact MS customer support, mate.

TBH I'm worried about NA. Last time 'round it was a stronghold for xbox360, with ps3 lagging well behind.
Unofficial figures (from three weeks ago) for the US indicate the PS4 is outselling the XB1.
"Up until the week ending August 24 the PlayStation 4 currently leads in the total number of pre-orders in the US with about 600,000... The Xbox One is still lagging behind with 350,000 pre-orders..." vgchartz

If the XB1 is losing in it's strongest territory then it doesn't bode well for Europe (where I believe Sony held a slight upper hand last gen). And of course Asia's a write-off for Microsoft - Sony have it wrapped up over there.

All this was weighing on my mind as I struggled to pick my side for next gen. I'd hate to pick a losing console, and watch support for it slip - and I worry for the xb1.

But it's got voice controls, and "snap" so sod it - I'm in! ;)

Yeah, that's what it should look like. Thanks, probably just me then. Layer 1 support had no clue, layer 2 is on the case, checking with layer 3 who should get back to me :)

They seemed to think people on the Beta Dashboard that had currency converted earlier might have had some different dates, but I wasn't in the beta.

While Xbone.com redirects to Bing search results, http://xbone.info/ is still alive and kicking, and I love their logo!
