Microsoft PR: No Next-Gen Reveal This Year

According to Bloomberg's Diana Bass, Microsoft PR man David Dennis has officially confirmed that "no new Xbox hardware [will] be shown/discussed at E3 or anytime soon." Apparently 2012 will be "all about 360," effectively squashing numerous unsubstantiated rumours that herald E3 2012 as a console reveal of epic proportions.

Is this a definitive last word or a corporate mind game? We'll find out in June. [via MCV]

So basically saying there will be an announcement.

E3 was poor last year what could they possibly have to talk about this year regarding the 360.

DivideByZero  Mar. 16, 2012 at 10:46

Maybe how there are going to be more games coming out that don't fit on one DVD.

jk12324  Mar. 16, 2012 at 14:16

That's good news to my ears. Now just waiting for Sony to confirm the same. It still only feels like yesterday that I bought my PS3 even though it was over 2 years ago. Don't want to slip into previous generation already.

I just hope they will focus more on actual good games this year, rather than than all the Kinect and Move rubbish that seemed to dominate last year.

Also looking forward to seeing the power of the Wii-U.

DivideByZero  Mar. 16, 2012 at 14:23

Hey jk12324... just because you didn't buy your PS3 FIVE years ago like many of us, don't slow the rest of us down.

If the buffallo all migrated at the speed of the slowest animal then the whole herd would get f*****.

I think you're misunderstanding something. I'm not an executive in Microsoft's game division. I don't decide when you get a new console, therefore I can't "slow the rest" of yous down.

I am merely saying I prefer there not be a new console soon. That's my opinion and I am entitled to it.

No, you're not.

Not when your opinion is wrong your not! :)

Maybe its an announcement about how their DVD drive/media isn't so slow (unlike blu-ray) that it doesn't need to spend 45 minutes installing to hard drive, ala GT5

10 second disc swap two or three times for the entire length of the game, or slower load times/45 minute install routine... hmmmm...

jk12324  Mar. 16, 2012 at 14:51

Not when your opinion isn't the same as mine you're not! :)

Fixed it for you. ;)

No no, I'm right. You're wrong. It's ok... you will learn to live with it.

Also worth noting, look at the Japan releases.

Playstation = 1994
PS2 = 2000 (six years later)
PS3 = 2006 (six years later)

2006 + 6 = 2012

So, if you want your consoles to last for years and be current for longer... buy when they first come out. Simple.

True facts. Opinion doesn't mean anything when its been made based on garbage and flawed logic.

If hardware developers lived by jk12324's rules, and were only allowed to release a new model six years after the last person bought one of their current models, then we'd still be stuck playing with sticks and string for all eternity.

DivideByZero  Mar. 16, 2012 at 15:42

True, but think of the value for money those early adopters would have got ;)

You guys are quite arrogant aren't yous? (Also my opinion) How does what Sony did in the past have any effect on my opinion? It doesn't make sense. An opinion isn't a fact, neither is it "rules" like Anarchist mentioned, it can neither be right or wrong. Therefore using "facts" to prove an opinion wrong, is like comparing apples to the company Apple. You can call an opinion morally wrong, but that doesn't apply to this topic.

It's also ignorant for thinking everyone can afford/would want to waste their money on launch prices. It's like telling poor African children to just go out and buy food like the rest of us if they don't want to be hungry.

My opinion is based on my own preferences and frankly, I couldn't care less if it doesn't match yours and you take a hissy fit over it.

I am happy that Microsoft isn't announcing anything new soon.
You guys are not happy that Microsoft isn't announcing anything new soon.

We have a difference in opinion.

Let's just leave it at that and stop being stupid.

An opinion is by its very nature, is a decision. A decision is based upon some sort of evidence or logic. When your evidence or logic is fundamentally flawed, your opinion is 'wrong'.

If you can't afford to upgrade if a new console came out, then don't upgrade. You don't have a basic human right to own whatever the current model Playstation is. But don't go claiming that Sony shouldn't release a new model just because you don't want them to as you wouldn't be able to afford it.

Oh, and you may want to have a think about claiming we're the ones having the 'hissy fit' - you're the one who seems to be getting upset and making it personal

I think you are getting mixed up with the terms "opinion" and "speculation". I've never once said Sony "shouldn't" release a new console. I said I would prefer if they didn't. How I feel about the situation is up to me. Yous are basically telling me how I should feel.

And before you claim I'm the one who started it, how about you go right back to the start and see what happened.

WRONG!

FACT!

:)

I started this whole thing really and it was done with a grin on my face. I know us chatting s*** here wont influence Sony one iota. But that said, I am genuinely ready for the next gen and think that the push will be good for gaming in general.

P.S. No, you started it!

Also, firstly I am not saying you have to do anything. Do what you want, buy what you want.

Next, in answer to your African "joke"?

Anarchist,

I am totally with you about opinion and how it can be wrong.

Here is one massive example.

There are some Christians who have the opinion that the world is 8000 years old, based on counting generations in the bible.

We have carbon dating and the like which puts the earth at at least 4.5 million years.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but that doesn't make it right.

That's not an opinion, that's a belief. How long are you going to keep at it? Can't you just accept that not everyone in the world agrees with you? Geez...

We really need a handbags graphic.

Back on topic, though, it'll be interesting to see what MS do wheel out at E3. I'm slightly afraid that they'll default to relying on Mr. Chief to be the answer to everything.

Then again, we could see TVs with Xboxes and Kinect in them? MS TV? A desktop Greenberg? Cloud gaming alliances? A Milo furbie?

No "new Xbox hardware" doesn't necessarily mean no new hardware.

Kinect v2 Motion Plus, then.

SolFox  Mar. 17, 2012 at 21:27

Handbags :)

Hopefully there will be something NEW. Hardware or not.

Xbox in a TV? Sony got there with the PS2 http://crave.cnet.co.uk/televisions/sony-bravia-kdl-22px300-tv-with-ps2-built-in-parties-like-its-2000-50001894/ ugly as it was.

Recycling an exclusive character? Mario is King.

"You are the controller"? Umm Eye Toy. The move take on 'you are the controller' is kinda funny though http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y5WQbuuq7MM :)

Cloud gaming? Perhaps MS will resolve their ongoing Windows 7 license dispute with OnLive by just buying the company. It's the first step to a more cozy relationship at any rate. MS can't afford to fall behind in the VDI or cloud gaming fronts.

Kinect v2 motion plus HD with emotio-synth. Lets you seemlessly interact with your virtual environment using only your eyebrows. Will be released with exclusive new Bond game to coincide with the new film. It's currently in testing http://www.hazzamon.co.uk/roger.html.

Nintendo don't need to have the monopoly on blue collar workers.

E3 will almost certainly see them license Postman Pat in an attempt to rival Mario's family-friendly, down to earth appeal.

I like it!

As for what MS are going to announce if its not the next xbox... I genuinely don't care. Compared to what you get on the PC the xbox is so far behind the curve it would have to be something really great coming to Xbox only to get interest out of me. I have used Kinect and I like the idea but find the execution just lame... and the problem with the idea is that Sony had that idea with the Eye-Toy on the PS2.

In the kinect vs. move battle, move wins hands down. That said, Sony need to get a new console out too. The PS3 is hard to write for and now they are selling to the budget market (as Sony themselves have said) the console is nearing the end of its life.

Not sure what MS can announce that isn't more filler.

So for me, the next hardware change I am exicted about will be the GTX 680s coming out in just over a month all going well.
