Are Microsoft About To Revive Killer Instinct?

Matt Gardner
Fighting Games, Killer Instinct, Microsoft, Please let this be A Thing, rare, Trademark

A short and sweet message from Microsoft appeared online yesterday breaking the news that they have renewed trademark on Killer Instinct from Rare, whom they bought in 2012.

Although this is common practice for IPs that companies want to keep hold of, even if they don't have immediate plans for them, what is worthy of note is the tone of the proclamation, and the fact that Microsoft made it public news themselves.

Posting on PlayXBLA, came the following statement:

With all due respect to our friends in the media who like to frequent trademark sites, we thought we’d break this one ourselves. :)

Our legal eagles have authorized us to say: “We have either renewed or refiled a trademark application in various jurisdictions.”

That’s it! Have a good Monday!

No concrete evidence, of course, but the desired effect is working: eyes and ears are eagerly awaiting any hint of an announcement. We'd rather love to see the classic fighting series come back...although preferably without being ruined by Kinect. Start listening to that kickass theme on loop!

How about you folks? Would you like to Killer Instinct return in some form or another?

The game that pioneered multiple hit combos, one of my favourite of all time and the most expensive game I ever purchased.£59.99 on the SNES.
