Microsoft Shoots Down Kinect-Less Xbox One Rumour

"We Believe In Kinect"

Microsoft has categorically denied that they plan to release a cheaper Kinect-free Xbox One bundle next year, following an inflammatory rumour yesterday.

InsideGamingDaily's anonymous source claimed that Microsoft were aiming to undercut the PS4 with a lightweight SKU next year, which is pure fallacy according to the console manufacturer.

"We have no plans to introduce an Xbox One without Kinect," reads a statement issued to Kotaku. "We believe in Kinect and the value it brings to both games and entertainment, and believe $499 is a great value for what consumers receive with their Xbox One."

So there, at least, for now. Though some gamers may be disappointed at the lack of a cheaper option, keeping Kinect as a mandatory part of the Xbox One ecosystem is the only way that the sensor can thrive throughout the next generation, and studios can develop around it without worrying about a fractured install base.

Naturally we'll keep you posted if we hear anything to the contrary.

Kudos to Microsoft on quickly quashing a scurrilous rumour. Makes a nice change from their attitude to them in the year or so before E3 2013, where they said nothing about the multitude of potentially harmful rumours that were doing the rounds.

Oooh, I do like "quickly quashing", lol.

Alliterative onomatopoeia for the win :D

Late, are you on commission for leaving comments on dealspwn? You must post on every article on here. Not having a go or anything as your comments are usually quite informative, just a bit curious on how you find the time.

Yeah, that thing he said.

(I scraped my English GCSEs. Have a vague notion of the first word, and you could've made up the second for all I know!)

Combination of having a boring office job; and wanting to see more people posting. It's one of my favourite websites, and I like to see more people get involved.

Commission sounds good though.
You hear that, Matt/Emma?
I got someone to sign up a new account, just now...

Of course Microsoft is going to deny it; doesn't mean it isn't going to happen :P

Still I think Sony should start making random news up about their PS4. Just to keep it in the minds of people on the run up to release.

@Tsung: To play devil's advocate, Microsoft doesn't usually deny rumours that turn out to be true in some form - they just clam up, put their fingers over their ears and shout "lalala we can't hear you" until you go away (see also: every pre-reveal Xbox One rumour ever). Or issue a "we do not comment on rumours or speculation" boilerplate.

That's not why I post. Honestly, it's not!oO

I didn't expect them to release a kinect-less version, and even though I plan on getting a PS4, and the price is a big reason, I think it's good that they're sticking to their guns. Kinect support would bomb if they did that, there should be a lot more Kinect features now developers know that everyone has one.

@Late one of the reasons I post often is the hope that it will encourage others to post more as well. Dealspwn is my go-to site for most gaming news.
