Microsoft Surface - the colourful tablet that sees Microsoft enter the tablet hardware market themselves (much to the surprise of certain partners) - has been issued with a release date in the company's recent annual report.
The report confirms that Microsoft will launch their Surface range alongside Windows 8, with a global release on October 26th.
“The next version of our operating system, Windows 8, will be generally available on October 26, 2012," reads Microsoft's report. "At that time, we will begin selling the Surface, a series of Microsoft-designed and manufactured hardware devices.”
Don't expect the Ivy Bridge-powered Surface Pro to be available at launch, though, as this date only corresponds to the somewhat less powerful ARM-powered Surface RT.
No word on a price point yet, mind, which will be key in determining whether or not Microsoft can manage to steal a slice of the Apple pie. [via Venture Beat]
