As As far as its entrance onto the Nintendo Wii goes, Mini Ninjas was a great, endearing little title. It saw the player assuming the role of clumsy ninja Hiro who was on a quest to restore harmony to the world and battle hordes of evil samurai. However, regarding the DS translation, Mini Ninjas has had some pretty mixed reviews, and, in all honesty, you need to be quite a forgiving gamer to tolerate its flaws. Many customers do insist that it’s a worthwhile little title but according to its IGN review, this is one to avoid.
However if – like many people - you think IGN were a bit harsh and feel that this one might be worth a punt, Mini Ninjas is currently available from The Hut priced £9.73. This is a great bargain considering the next best deal comes in at £13.85 from Shopto.
The scaled down DS version of Mini Ninjas is not completely devoid of the charm which made the console version so appealing. It still retains the same story, the same quirky game world which is drawn from Japanese mythology and more or less the same cute visuals. However it is the scale of the environments which really lets this DS adaptation down.
They are just too big and contain very little detail. On top of this, the character movement is extremely slow and the camera angles are cumbersome which means that navigating through the game world is frustrating and feels like a chore. All in all, despite the fact it can be fun at times, if you think Mini Ninjas is your kind of game, you might be better off buying the Nintendo Wii version.
