Wii U "Runs A Lot Better" With Upcoming Firmware Update
Despite recently telling us that new characters and franchises don't equate to new gameplay, Shigeru Miyamoto has revealed that he's hard at work on a brand new Nintendo franchise. What's more, the sluggish Wii U OS should soon get a shot in the arm thanks to a major update in the pipeline.
Miyamoto dropped some interesting hints during an interview with Famitsu Magazine [translated by Polygon]. “With the most recent version update the [Wii U] system runs a lot better, and while there will continue to be improvements in the future, I think it’s to the point where it’s a convenient thing to have in the living room,” he said.
“Of course, these sorts of updates mean nothing if we don’t put out games for it, and I hope people are looking forward to the games coming up. We’ll have Mario Kart 8 out next spring, and at that point we’ll have the whole lineup in place, so I think it’s about time we brought out a new franchise.
“I can’t give out details, but that’s the title that’s been keeping me pretty busy lately.”
Gosh. Nintendo in new franchise shocker. It's worth noting that the 3DS has played host to some new franchises such as Dillon's Rolling Western and HarmoKnight, but hopefully the Wii U will get some new first-party faces soon.
