Modern Warfare 2 £34.99 @ The Game Collection [PS3 Games]

Quite timely, this one. Of course, one of the negatives about a game being particularly popular and critically acclaimed and all that is that it doesn't bode quite so well for us as thrifty consumers. Modern Warfare 2 doesn't really need an introduction, but this recent price cut for The Game Collection does.

TGC works on a premise whereby they generally offer slightly undercut prices for title whenever they receive shipments, which can lead to some irregularities and also rapidly expiring deals. Thankfully, though for this one they have in excess of 300 or so copies at the moment and are offering them for £34.99, which is a good couple of quid cheaper than the nearest competitor (Coolshop - £36.99).

I'm going to make no bones about it: I really like this game. Yes it's overblown and silly and Bobby Kotick is a knob and all that jazz, but it's also a hell of a lot of fun. If you have a console, that is. Thankfully this deal's for the PS3 version so prospective pixel investors will be fine. I found the singleplayer to be a short, but sweet, frantic and fraught thrill-ride. The multiplayer is fantastic, and the co-op Special Ops mode is intensely tactical and highly enjoyable with a friend.

Don't expect a sandbox free-for-all war-fest. Do expect a relatively linear action bonanza with more set-pieces than a Die Hard film - Infinity Ward are here to take you for a ride. It's pure war fantasy, but it's very well done indeed.
