Modern Warfare 2 Favela Map Removed Due To Islamic Imagery

Just a quick PSA: if you're still playing Modern Warfare 2, you might be surprised to discover that the Favela map has disappeared. Activision has temporarily retired the level from playlist rotation due to players discovering holy Islamic text displayed on a couple of paintings, which is potentially offensive for Muslim gamers.

"We apologize to anyone who found this image offensive," Activision told Kotaku. "Please be assured we were unaware of this issue and that there was no intent to offend. We are working as quickly as possible to remove this image and any other similar ones we may find from our various game libraries."

"We are urgently working to release a Title Update to remove the texture from Modern Warfare 3. We are also working to remove the texture from Modern Warfare 2 through a separate Title Update. Until the TU is ready, we have removed the Favella multiplayer map from online rotation."

"Activision and our development studios are respectful of diverse cultures and religious beliefs, and sensitive to concerns raised by its loyal game players. We thank our fans for bringing this to our attention."

In fairness to Activision and call of duty, when was this image first discovered? And secondly they have been working on many projects ever since, so it would've been difficult to bring this to their attention. Just show some appreciation that they did in fact take the time to rectify a game which is now very old.

P.S - On a brighter note, One man Army and Noob Tubes are still overpowered XD

Just to clarify, it wasn't the text that was offensive, it was that the picture (which had the text written on the frame) was placed above a toilet in a bathroom.

Side note tho: Activision should have just said that the "character" whose house that was (in the game) was anti-muslim and placed it there intentionally to offend. :)

It comes to something tho when people are more offended by this than the inherent killing that they are partaking in said game too, surely that's also against any religous doctrine? :/

Thanks for the clarification theslickmeister, and I completely agree, this is such BS.
