Modern Warfare 3 or Battlefield 3?

Which do think is gonna rule the blockbuster season this year. I'd like to see Battlefield do really well personally, I've always loved that series and the destruction modelling looks great. Just hope there are plenty of open-ended elements to the gameplay. Hope DICE haven't just turned the series into Call of Duty.

Well considering Killzone 3 and Bad Company 2 are well ahead of anything the CoD series has to offer, its pretty obvious.

That's a broad (and massively inaccurate) reply, Mickeh.

I'm a console gamer, and don't really "do" pc gaming - and I'm a big fan of CoD. In terms of unit sales, MW3 will almost certainly outsell Bf3 when they go head to head this November - irrespective of which game is better - purely because it's got the fanbase.

I do hope that Bf3 is better than CoD though. I immensely enjoyed my one brief foray into Battlefield and it seems clear to me that they're capable of coming up with a CoD-beater. If Bf3 is the better game then it'll probably still be outsold by CoD this year - but the next installment would be where we really see which is king.
If nothing else, it'd be nice to see CoD pressured into coming up with something new. (And finally getting destructible environments into their games. It's well overdue, and the occasional crumbling ice bridge or closing hangar door doesn't cut muster.)

Incidentally, I've every intention of buying both.

Competition is certainly a good thing. The Acti showcase just before E3 was pretty much spectacular business as usual. Big, bold, brash blockbuster material...very loud, ticked all of the right boxes. But it's still 'just another Call of Duty'. There's little that really stands out, it would seem, at the moment. Mind you, if it ain't broke...

My worry is that Battlefield will be too similar. I loved Bad Company 2, but even that was already striving quite hard to emulate the more linear stylings of COD. Frostbite 2.0 will be the big weapon in the Battlefield arsenal, and the game looks absolutely stunning, but EA will be hard pushed to match MW3's multiplayer options, particularly with COD: Elite being rolled out too.

That new development will probably persuade the multitude of Black Ops fans to stay firmly put. EA are investing a lot in Battlefield 3, it looks better and I for one have always preferred the expansive nature of Battlefield's multiplayer, but they have some serious ground to make up. Gamers often don't deal well with change and Battlefield 3 can't just match its Activision counterpart...it has to surpass it in absolutely every way.

CoD 4 was the last decent CoD game, every one that has followed since has been awful. Your comment is just as inaccurate as mine, as CoD and Battlefield games cannot be compared at all. CoD is run & spray, Battlefield is teamwork and skill.

The whole killstreak system has got out of hand in CoD, and has ultimately ruined the experience. Vehicular combat is far better than camping in a corner for 7 or 8 kills then calling in a AI controlled Harrier or Chopper to rack up kills while you sit there and do nothing.

CoD in this day and age is a simple game for simple people (i.e. the casual gamer), Battlefield and Killzone are there for the actual gamers who dont spend all their time on online lobbies singing down the mic, which accounts for the majority of CoD's community.

He's not asking which you think is better, though, nor is he asking which will dominate a certain platform or which will appeal more to the player who likes to engage more than a handful of braincells at a time.
If you interpret the question as "which will make most money" then it's going to be Call of Duty.

As I say, I'm looking forward to both immensely (probably Battlefield more than COD if I'm honest), and I hope both offer vastly different experiences.

Remember they dropped the moniker CoD for this series. So technically its MW3 will be better then BF3.
