Modern Warfare 3 Multiplayer Fact-Sheet

We filled you in on all the Modern Warfare 3 news flooding from the first annual Call of Duty XP Event held this past weekend. But if you're a stickler for cold, hard facts, then guess what; beyond this page lies a veritable wall of facts, such as all five 'Proficiencies', the new and improved 'Death Streaks', or just how many kills are required in the 'Assault Strike Package' to unlock the remote chopper Assault Drone.

Weapon Ranking System

Like we mentioned in our previous Modern Warfare 3 post yesterday, each of your weapons - be it an M4A1 carbine or a Dragunov sniper rifle - earns XP with each kill or completed challenge, which can then be spent on attachments of proficiencies. Over 40 weapons can be unlocked in MW3's multiplayer, and they come in two classes:

Primary

  • Assault Rifles
  • Sub Machine Guns
  • Large Machine Guns
  • Sniper Rifles
  • Shotguns
  • Riot Shield

Secondary

  • Handguns
  • Machine Pistols
  • Launchers

Furthermore, with enough XP earned for a specific weapon, you can then begin purchasing upgrades in the form of attachments, camouflage patterns or and custom reticules. Here's a list of some confirmed attachments:

Attachments

  • Red Dot Sight
  • Holographic Site
  • Dual Scope
  • Silencer

Additionally, you can assign a specific 'Proficiency' to your weapon, such as reducing recoil, allowing you to hold your breath for longer when scoping, flinch less harder when shot, and even affix two attachments to said weapon.

Proficiencies

  • Kick (Reduced Recoil)
  • Attachments (Two Primary Weapon Attachments)
  • Stability (Reduced Sway When ADS)
  • Focus (Reduced Flinch When Shot)
  • Breathe (Hold Breath Longer)
  • Impact (Greater Bullet Penetration)

Perks

Infinity Ward have listened to the community and removed overpowered and much-maligned perks such as Stopping Power - which increased the damage each weapon dealt - and Commando - which increased your knife lunge. Instead, the list of perks now buff up your passive abilities, and a host of new additions have made it in for MW3

  • Recon (Explosive Damage Paints Target On Mini-Map)
  • Blind Eye (Cannot Be Detected By Air Support Or Sentries)
  • Assassin (Cannot Be Detected By UAV, Portable Radar, Thermal Or Heartbeat Sensors)
  • Quickdraw (Faster ADS)
  • Stalker (Move Faster Whilst ADS)
  • Marksman (Identify Targets At Longer Range)

The likes of Sleight of Hand and Marathon look set to return in Modern Warfare 3, although perhaps with different names or as part of Pro Perks. And if you're still sore about the loss of shotguns as secondary weapons, the Weapon Master perk lets you pick any two weapons from both primary and secondary slots.

Strike Packages

Killstreaks have been removed from Call of Duty's multiplayer in Modern Warfare 3, instead replaced by Pointstreaks. And again, unlike past CoD games, you don't simply pick three from an all-encompassing list, but choose a 'Strike Package' tailored to the way you play. If you're a hardcore run-and-gunner, pick the Assault Package; however, if you prefer to lap up points in objective games like Capture the Flag or Domination, pick the Support Package, whose pointstreaks don't reset upon death.

Assault Package (Pointstreaks Reset Upon Death)

  • 5 Kills: I.M.S.
  • 9 Kills: Strafe Run
  • 9 Kills: AH-6 Overwatch
  • 10 Kills: Assault Drone
  • 15 Kills: Juggernaut

Support Package (Pointstreaks Don't Reset Upon Death)

  • 5 Kills: Ballistic Vests
  • 5 Kills: Airdrop Trap
  • 10 Kills: Recon Drone
  • 14 Kills: Stealth Bomber
  • 18 Kills: Juggernaut Recon

Specialist Package (Pointstreaks Reset Upon Death)

  • 2 Kills: Add A Fourth Perk
  • 4 Kills: Add A Fifth Perk
  • 6 Kills: Add A Sixth Perk
  • 8 Kills: Add Every Perk

Additionally, the divisive 'Death Streaks' from Modern Warfare 2 have returned. Intended to give ailing players an advantage, they reward you with a specific ability if you should die a certain amount of times in a row.

Death Streaks

  • 4 Deaths: 'Juiced', Run Faster
  • 5 Deaths: 'Revenge', Your Killer Is Visible On Mini Map
  • 5 Deaths: 'Hollow Points', Increased Bullet Damage For One Kill
  • 6 Deaths: 'Dead Man's Hand', Last Stand With C4
