Mojang (Minecraft and Scrolls' parent company) has been toying with the idea of acting as a publisher for smaller independent studios over the last few months- and the first of these collaborations has now been officially announced. Cobalt is a sumptuous 2D action platformer where "sanity has not been invited" - so steel yourself for the intel and trailer after the break.
Cobalt, in development at Oxeye Game Studios, has been described as "an action game of running, jumping, rolling, shooting, throwing, dancing, HACKING, rolling, flying, sliding, climbing, looting, deflecting, racing, pinata-ing, passing, scoring... and even more rolling." Players will assume the role of Metalface the cyborg as he performs the above actions throughout sumptuous 2D levels, with the ability to play cooperatively or in a number of competitive modes. A bundled map editor should provide some serious incentive for community to form as well as impressive aftersale value.
Naturally we'll be keeping a close eye on this one.
