Monsters are pesky little critters, aren't they? They bother livestock, ruin picnics and lay waste to entire civilisations... but at least the Monster Hunters are on hand to sort them out, carve them up and craft useful items out of their entrails. Monster Hunter Tri allows Wii owners to get involved in the rich MH universe whilst correcting a few of the franchise's deep seated problems; and ShopTo are currently leading the pack with an excellent price. They're currently retailing for £23.85, which will save you around £5.50 compared to the next cheapest offering from Coolshop.
Tri bring the stiff challenge and addictive formula of the Monster Hunter franchise to the Nintendo Wii- and whilst there are a couple of niggling problems, actually provides one of the most enjoyable outings in the franchise's history. The general gameplay mechanic is unchanged, with you taking on quests to kill gradually larger beasts, fashion items, collect offal and eventually face off against a cadre of enormous monsters. These epic battle feel like old-school boss encounters- and whilst novice players may be surprised by the dedication and grinding required for victory, finally taking them down is a lot of fun. Impressive graphics, improved camera control and tuned combat mechanics elevate the title above many of its predecessors (especially the clunky PSP outings).
However, the Monster Hunter franchise still hasn't lost its reputation for clunky, finnicky quests and and initially baffling multiplayer. There are also a few control issues here and there, but on the whole, Monster Hunter Tri is a worthwhile addition to the series and well worth a punt at this price.
