$3.5 Million Hit With 5 Days To Go
It appears that cheesy yet awesome video pleas are exactly that Cloud Imperium needed, as the final push to $4 Million for the upcoming space sim Star Citizen looks like it could be realised. In an update posted on the Robert Space Industries website earlier this morning, it was announced that along with a new star system being added to the game, the features of customisable cockpits, allowing for bobbleheads and dinosaurs, (no doubt pleasing Firefly fans everywhere) and ship-to-ship boarding will be included in the final game.
In the new update, Chris Roberts explained that the ship boarding mechanic would not turn the game into “Grand Theft Spaceship”, and that it would require a “high entry cost” to pull off. Combat skill, multiple players, and some hefty co-ordination will be required in capturing other ships (and no, you won't have leech cannons to help with the process.) Once on-board, Roberts likened what would happen next to the first scene in Star Wars: A New Hope, and made it clear that the defenders would also have ways to strengthen their position against attackers. Perhaps more importantly, Roberts announced that as well as other additional systems being added every $500k, should the grand total make it to $4 Million players can expect the following to be added to Star Citizen:
- Melee & Heavy Weapons
- Zero-gravity Simulation
- Suit HUD Options
- Increased Customization
- Outside-the-ship combat (magnetic boots on a hull; think Moonraker)
With just 5 days left before the crowd-funding campaign ends, it will most likely be a photo finish in the last-minute dash to the $4 Million mark.
