Bid Your Vita-lity Farewell
The PS Vita launched in Japan last December, where it endured a rocky introduction to the market, outsold by its portable rival, the Nintendo 3DS, and failing to hit the figures Sony had hoped for. However, I don't doubt the Vita will soon find its feet, especially when it has a grip in North America and Europe, where it releases very soon. And expect to be ripping arms, legs and heads off on it in the Spring, when NetherRealm releases their still-in-development Mortal Kombat title on the Vita.
"The NetherRealm team is committed to making sure that we follow up the success of 2011’s Mortal Kombat with an equally compelling experience on the PlayStation Vita," NetherRealm Studios' chief, Ed Boon, told fans in a press release. "The original game content and new features we developed for the PlayStation Vita will provide gamers with the best fighting game experience available on the new mobile platform.”
The press release reveals that the Vita version of Mortal Kombat will return the series to the 2D plane, with all new inclusions such as Tag Team and Challenge Tower included, as well as a "deep story mode". Furthermore, they speak of "several new features exclusive to the PS Vita", which I imagine might harness those two touch-sensitive screens and pads.
