Blizzard Considering Diablo-Themed Console Outing
A few rumours about the possibility of Diablo 3 making a console appearance have been doing the rounds for months- and came to a head recently thanks to some provocative (if out-of-context) comments from the dev team. However, the latest word from Blizzard indicates that they're considering a Diablo-related title for next gen consoles.
We're exploring a Diablo-related concept for consoles and are currently looking to fill a few senior console-related positions on the Diablo III team. As we've said in the past, with proper care the gameplay could suit the console platform, and we're interested in seeing what talent out there might be interested in such a project.
Before you get too excited though, Blizzard were keen to stress that this isn't an announcement for a direct console port- rather a spinoff set in the same universe. We reckon it'll resemble Baldur's Gate's dark alliance console franchise, with more immediate action gameplay replacing some of the finnicky PC niceties that require a mouse and keyboard.
Please note that this is not an announcement of a console title. We are first and foremost developing Diablo III for Windows and Mac PCs and don't intend to allow any possibility of a console interpretation to delay or affect the release of the game.
We'll keep you posted. [Battle.net Community Forums]
New Ghost Recon & Driver Delayed
Citing the drive to compete with other AAA studios, Ubisoft is currently embarking on a massive restructuring of their studios. As well as some regrettable job losses, this reshuffling of personnel has also resulted in two major delays. Ghost Recon: Future Soldier and the Driver reboot have both been pushed back- partly to allow them to recieve a greater degree of fine tuning and polish. Ubisoft have cited "Fiscal 2012" as their target release date window- which means that they'll probably make an appearance next Christmas. [Gamasutra]
Frozen Synapse Headed To Steam In 2011
Frozen Synapse was one of the standout Indie titles at this year's Eurogamer Expo. It's a unique downloadable title that mixes tight turn-based tactics with addictive gametypes and a social networking vibe... and developer Mode7 has now revealed that that it will be available to purchase on Steam in 2011. Note that free Steam keys will be provided for customers that take advantage of their direct preorder deal.
This is big news for us: being on Steam means that Frozen Synapse has a much better shot at reaching a significant audience. We’d like to thank Valve and also all of the members of our community who have championed the game. - Mode 7’s Joint Managing Director Paul Taylor
