Resident Evil Creator Joins... Bethesda!

From Mikami's Megaton Move To A Monstrous MMO - News Roundup 28th October 2010

Whoa! Shinji Mikami's fledgling Tango Gameworks has been snapped up by none other than Zenimax Media. After leaving Platinum Games (who are currently renegotiating another deal with SEGA after their successful Vanquish partnership) to form Tango, Mikami has opted to throw his lot in with Bethesda in order to benefit from the refreshing new market potential, expertise and possibly even id Tech 5.

It’s refreshing to find a publisher who understands, trusts, and supports the development of blockbuster games and works to make it a collaborative effort. The library of AAA franchise titles ZeniMax owns speaks for itself. We are very excited to be joining ZeniMax and working with a company that is dedicated to creating the best games ever made. - Shinji Mikami

Mikami will retain creative control over the studio whilst developing titles for Bethesda- and we'll be watching this new collaboration like a hawk considering that he's the director behind Resident Evil, Devil May Cry and God Hand. We'll also be keeping an eye on Zenimax- who now preside over a staggeringly impressive stable of established developers. With great power comes great responsibility, Zenimax.

Universal Monsters Team Up For Van Helsing MMO

From Mikami's Megaton Move To A Monstrous MMO - News Roundup 28th October 2010

The Universal Monsters brand is responsible for creating the "classic" versions of the Hunchback of Notre Dame, the Phantom of the Opera, Dracula, the Invisible Man, the Mummy and the Creature From the Black Lagoon... and a new partnership with SEE Virtual Worlds will be adapting their little catalogue of horrors into an MMO.

This planned title will cast players as Van Helsing-style monster hunters who are hot on the trail of Universal's stellar monster roster. Details are still thin on the ground, but it's reportedly due late next year. Hopefully it will also contain the thriller zombie from SEE's upcoming Michael Jackson MMO! [Hollywood Reporter]

Sony Deploys Playstation Rewards Scheme Beta

From Mikami's Megaton Move To A Monstrous MMO - News Roundup 28th October 2010

We're big fans of rewarding loyalty here at Dealspwn, so we're delighted that Sony are rolling out another way for fans to earn some extra benefits. The Playstation Rewards Scheme will be absolutely free to join (contrasting sharply with the Playstation Plus premium service), and has now entered a closed beta that's been offered to certain Plus and Gamer Advisory Panel subscribers.

Here's the deal. Members will be able to accrue points by downloading PSN games, content and films (i.e. just keep doing what you're doing), which will eventually make them legible for entry into the Select, Pro and Legendary 'reward tiers.' Depending on your tier level, you'll then be able to claim rewards such as themes, Playstation Home content and even prize giveaways. Sony will be offering an all-expenses-paid trip to next year's CES as the first major prize experience.

It's a neat idea, and we're looking forward to seeing how it pans out.

UPDATE: This service has only been confirmed for the US so far- so European users will need to watch this space[Playstation Blog]

F.E.A.R 3 Dated For March 2011

From Mikami's Megaton Move To A Monstrous MMO - News Roundup 28th October 2010

Warner Bros. have confirmed that their delayed sequel to Monolith's F.E.A.R. franchise will be hitting US shelves on the 22nd of March 2011- and we assume that it will reach British shores soon afterwards. No explanation has been given for it slipping from the original holiday season release date. [IGN]

If Playstation Rewards are backdated I should already have legendary status for the £100 or so of stuff I've bought on PSN :P
