Prototype 2 Confirmed, Mystery Solved
The mysterious "zombie" title set for a reveal at the VGAs has now been outed as Prototype 2. For real, this time.
After previous VGA teasers trailer hinted at the possibility of a new Resident Evil or even Left 4 Dead sequel, the most recent artwork and trailers directed viewers to "Murder Your Maker": both a catchy slogan and a marketing site. Murderyourmaker.com has now updated with a short yet overt Prototype teaser. Blink and you'll miss it.
We rather enjoyed Prototype in a cathartic, brainless way. Hopefully a sequel will deliver tighter controls and stop Alex Mercer from being the most boring player character in videogame history... here's hoping.
Gears of War 3 and Resistance 3 gameplay will also be shown at the VGAs. There won't be any time for the awards at this rate!
EA To Slash Games Output
EA has announced plans to drastically reduce their game lineup over the next two years. Speaking at the Reuters Global Media Summit, EA CEO John Riccitiello explained that this fiscal year would see a40% reduction in output (from over 50 to a projected 35). The next year will probably see even this lower number reduce to a trickle.
I don't think it goes to 10 or 15 or even less than 20, but there's some number probably between the low 20s and the high 20s that's right.
Riccitiello explained that this new "less is more" strategy is designed to reduce costs (natch) whilst providing better games and more polished experiences. Which is something we can all get behind. Apparently the troubled publishing giant digital distribution will also be aggressively courting the digital market to increase revenue. [EG]
Rumour Control: New PSPhone Videos
Well, I suppose we should stop calling it that now. This week has witnessed a deluge of new videos 'detailing' the Sony Ericsson Zeus Z1, from the deeply questionable to the laughably blurry. New videos from Engadget, however, are pixel sharp- allowing us to get up close and personal with the hardware.
The Zeus Z1 features a slideout controls, Android OS, a uniquely "fat" shape to make it confortable during long play sessions and the ability to download and play PS1 titles. We reckon it'll make its debut in January (contrary to early reports of an December reveal), so watch this space! [Engadget]
