Ubisoft: New Console Generation and Universal 3D TVs in 3 Years?

From Red Dead Zombies to H.A.W.X. 2 Takeoff - News Roundup 9th July 2010

The only thing that's certain about the future is that nothing is certain. Except that Bobby Kotick will continue to screw everyone, no-one will ever take Bing seriously and that Ubisoft will continue to pump out Tom Clancy titles (see below!).

Speaking of Ubisoft, however, they've announced their predictions for the future... and they're pretty big claims. Within three years, Ubi have predicted both a new console generation and that every house will have a 3D television!

Okay, let's start with the new console generation. Pundits and overpaid hypemongers analysts famously predicted that this current generation would last for a decade due to the extremely high manufacturing costs, high graphical capability and slim profit margins that're attached to the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3. However, it's plausible that we'll be seeing a new Microsoft and Nintendo offering within this timeframe, with Sony to follow due to the PS3's empirically superior onboard hardware. Just my two cents.

The other prediction seems a little premature, however. According to recent surveys and public opinion, 3D's still a minority fad that has yet to genuinely take hold or enrich the gaming experience in any major way... and it'll take some major convincing and price crashing to convince us otherwise. Two big predictions, three years and a whole mess of new hardware. You know you want to weigh in on this one. Have your say in the comments!

Red Dead Redemption to Get Loads of DLC... and Zombies!

From Red Dead Zombies to H.A.W.X. 2 Takeoff - News Roundup 9th July 2010

Rockstar have revealed their plans for RDR's upcoming downloadable content... and it's pretty damn depressing. Three of the our pieces of DLC only contain a few multiplayer offerings... and they're £9.99 each. Ugh.

However, the single shining speck of hope is that the final piece of DLC contains singleplayer missions, challenges, animals... and zombies! Oh yes, we'll be able to face off against the undead hordes later this year (exact date TBA). Whether it'll be worth a tenner is another matter altogether...I'm getting sick and tired of this. [CVG]

H.A.W.X 2 Blowout: Ready For Takeoff!

From Red Dead Zombies to H.A.W.X. 2 Takeoff - News Roundup 9th July 2010

Another Ubisoft story, folks... since they were kind enough to carpet bomb my news desk with a full payload of trailers, Q&A sessions and details about H.A.W.X. 2. The original bottomed out a long way from aviation heaven thanks to some weirdly restrictive mission objectives and lack of a skirmish mode, but we're delighted that they've decided to stick with the franchise and bring another arcade flight sim to consoles. Frankly, there aren't anywhere near enough.

Right, down to business. H.A.W.X. 2 promises to deliver a much more authentic aviation experience this time around by offering a greater range of logistical gameplay features. We'll be able to take off from air bases, land on carriers and conduct perilous mid-air refueling manoeuvres- all of which will hopefully flesh out the overall depth of the package.

Naturally the combat is still the main event. New precision weaponry will allow for surgical strikes on key enemy targets- and AC13o rail shooting sections will help to break up the gameplay. We just pray that those EMP flight ceilings don't make an unwelcome return...

Why not take a gander at the trailer below? Whilst there are only a few snippets of actual game, you'll get the idea. We hope that H.A.W.X. 2 will be able to improve upon its predecessor when it's released later this year.

Unless someone gives me a 3D TV I don't see myself as having one within 3 years.
