Free-to-play publisher Nexon has acquired the rights to Production I.G.'s outstanding anime series, Ghost In The Shell: Stand Alone Complex, with a view to developing a new game based on the second season.
"We are very pleased to have given the opportunity to work with Kodansha in the development of games for the Ghost in the Shell: STAND ALONE COMPLEX franchise, which is highly popular worldwide," gushed Nexon CEO Seungwoo Choi. "We will add NEXON’s wide-ranging experiences and know-how to the original creation in order to develop high quality games to meet the expectations of all its fans."
According to the press release, the publisher behind Maple Story, Vindictus and Combat Arms intends to "expand the universe" with a licensed free-to-play title that references both the Second Gig and Solid State Society movie.
Personally we'd have preferred Eidos Montreal to pick up the GITS license, but we'll keep an eye out for more details.
