As far as product names go, Next Generation Portable isn't exactly original. We all speculated whether NGP was simply a codename, similar to how Microsoft unveiled Kinect first as Project Natal. And if reports uncovered over the weekend are to be believed, Sony is set to rename their newfangled portable at their E3 conference next month in Los Angeles.
So what's it called? The PS Vita, apparently. 'Vita', in Latin or Italian, stands for life. I suppose Sony consider it delivers a strong message. Personally, I'm not so ecstatic with the name change. It's a little ostentatious, but I suppose we can't expect a billion dollar company to get modest on us now, can we?
The NGP - sorry, PS Vita, is set for a big show at E3, with Sony planning a five hour conference it'll no doubt factor into heavily. Hopefully we'll get hands-on with the likes of Uncharted NGP, set to bridge the gap between the first two action-adventure romps and set up the third, and find out more on the rest of Sony's plans for their next generation portable.
