Here we go again: Nintendo has filed a new trademark for Gamecube horror title Eternal Darkness, but with provisions for digital distribution. Could they be planning on bringing some Gamecube classics over to Wii U?
As spotted by Siliconera, the trademark filing is distinct from their previous application, as opposed to their usual defensive extension. “Downloadable electronic game programs” and “downloadable electronic game software" are both explicitly mentioned, perhaps suggesting that Virtual Console versions could be on the cards. We certainly hope that this is the case.
As will Precursor Games, the original developers behind Eternal Darkness, who recently launched their third crowd-funding campaign for Shadow Of The Eternals (a spiritual successor). It's likely that a re-release would draw increased interest to the project, currently slated for PC, mobile devices, Wii U and PlayStation 4.
