Today’s news roundup looks at a brand new trademark The Last Story filed by Nintendo in Japan, while in other news, the PS3 Slim is predicted to sell over 500,000 units in Japan this December, French magazine PSM3 lavishes Uncharted 2 with praise, and a leaked Toys R Us ad gives us even more evidence of a Wii price cut.
New Trademark Filed By Nintendo In Japan
A new trademarke filed by Nintendo in Japan indicates a brand new IP may be on the way. Nintendo recently trademarked the rights to The Last Story, interestingly registered in English, despite being filed in Japan. The trademark doesn’t appear to hold any ties with any existing franchise, so hopefully The Last Story can bring some much needed freshness to Nintendo Entertainment. [Siliconera]
PS3 Slim To Sell Half Million Units In Japan This December
The PS3 Slim has already proved to be an enormous success, boasting impressive sales throughout the globe. Famitsu magazine publisher Enterbrain believes this success will continue up to and including December, thanks to the launch of Final Fantasy XIII. Enterbrain president Hirokzau Hamamura believes the PS3 Slim can manage to shift 500,000 units in Japan this holiday season, provided Final Fantasy XIII lives up to its expectations.
The PS3 Slim saw spectacular sales in Japan, selling 150,252 in its first three days. Hamamura reckons the price drop will also ensure this continues. The PS3 has reached a grand total of 3,431,964 units in Japan since its original launch, with Media Create stating they believe the PS3 userbase can reach 5 million before the end of Sony’s fiscal year in March 2010.
Leaked Toys R Us Ad Points To Wii Price Drop
Following rumours of a Wii price cut thanks to Wal-Mart suggesting a “price rollback” in an early ad, more evidence has appeared suggesting an American price drop this October. Toy R Us fuels the speculation this time, with a rather more obvious ad displaying “Wii Price Cut!” and a new price of $199.
The ad is set to appear in the last week of September, suggesting a slightly earlier price drop than indicated by the Wal-Mart ad. Nintendo still haven’t denied or confirmed anything yet, as if confirmation is needed. With a price cut looking likely to hit America this October, a European one couldn’t be too far off. [Kotaku]
French PSM3 Awards Uncharted 2 21/20
French magazine PSM3’s latest edition was bursting with Uncharted 2 praise, awarding the game an impossible 21 out of 20 in their early review. The magazine referred to game as “Monstrueux,” concluding the game was (when translated in English) “Long, visually stunning, deep and explosive, Uncharted 2 combines all the qualities you can find in a videogame, and more! A new milestone has been reached in the videogame history.”
Considering the magazines orientation, this review should perhaps be taken with a pinch of salt, but if reviews continue to prove this positive it looks like Uncharted 2 will be the first game good enough to somehow transcend gaming perfection. [N4G]
