"Nerdy" Space Trading, Fantasy Football Or Sims?
How can you follow a game like Minecraft? It's one of 2010's biggest successes despite still not getting out of beta, and expectations are going to be extremely high for any subsequent release. We've already caught wind of Mojang's new trading card game, Scrolls, but Indie CEO Markus ‘Notch’ Persson has revealed that he has three ideas for new titles once Minecraft has hit the downloadable marketplace. Apparently a "nerdy" Space trading simulation, single-character Sims experience or a Football Manager for fantasy heroes might be on the cards - and we have the details below.
Speaking to RPS, Persson suggests that there's a glaring niche in the market for Elite-esque space trading simulations - which we've been moaning about for months. He'd love to make a new one with some updated features, but will have a job on his hands persuading gamers to get on board.
I’m really annoyed with how there are no space trading simulators at the moment. And the ones there have been always kind of miss the point. They’re fun, but even Elite 2 which was a great game, wasn’t really what I wanted. I really want to make that, but that’s going to be lots of work, and be extremely nerdy, and probably won’t sell very well. But hopefully I can convince other people here that they want to do it.
We'd buy it. Just saying.
But that's not all. Notch also has an idea for a lifestyle simulator that would function like the Sims franchise whilst focusing on a single character.
And then I have this weird town simulation thing, which is basically a single character Sims. You’re just one character in the town, just living. It wouldn’t be a super-realistic city simulator. It would be my take on what real life is.
Finally, and arguably more interestingly, he'd love to create a Football Management sim that features fantasy heroes and quests instead of players and matches. We'll need to make sure that the roster gets along, though...
Er… yeah. I shouldn’t probably say this because people might steal it, but what the hell. It’s like a football manager, but it’s for fantasy heroes. If you have a troll and a goblin in the same team, the troll might eat the goblin.
Sounds good - and we'll be keeping a close eye on what Mojang have in store for us. Until then, I guess we'll just keep playing Minecraft. [RPS]
