Obsidian's Project X Tease Starts Counting Down

The Plot Thickens

Yesterday's revelation that Obsidian Entertainment are teasing a new project seemed to point towards Dungeon Siege 4. A mysterious front page banner contained the number 4 along with some fantasy-inspired text. Since Obsidian developed Dungeon Siege 3, it seemed like a forgone conclusion.

However, the number has now ticked down to 3. It's a countdown set for Friday evening/Saturday morning, then, but fresh speculation makes the mysterious title's identity far from certain.

"The book is unwritten," reads the new blurb. "The reason we don't explain it is the reason we use it. Its power is in its mystery. That is the Leaden Key, in part, in whole. Is it clear?"

"Digging for truth buries the seeker."

Is it clear? Is it f**k. However, exploring the source code [via the forums] reveals some extra little tidbits.

"Two centuries ago, your divine champion told the people of Dyrwood to grovel at his feet," it reveals. "If you've come on pilgrimage to the blasted crater that was our reply, Godhammer Citadel is *that* way. "

A mysterious selection of redacted letters is also coming info focus, changing from "X. X X. X X" to "X. X X. T X." We originally assumed that this was going to be a release date, but "T" throws things out of whack somewhat. It could well be the name of the title - perhaps "Eternity" if Xs stand for consonants while full stops denote a vowel.

So, what can we learn from this? Dungeon Siege IV is still a potential contender, especially considering the fantasy text and the fact that the countdown started from the number 4, but it's possible that Project X could be a Wheel Of Time sequel (potentially backed up by the circular logo) or a brand new IP. Eternity? It certainly fits with the Ouroboros symbol, but for now, we'll have to wait and see. [Obsidian Forums]

Except that the word cannot be eternity if the x's are consonants and the full stops are vowels. The word would end in a vowel, then precede with a consonant, and then by a t. Eternity does not fit because the second t is in the wrong place.

True, this is very much grasping at straws at the moment. All will become clear by week's end.

Could be, actually. The source code currently says:
. X . X X . T X
(The full-stops are slightly off in this piece, Jon.)

...and the fact that the countdown started from the number 4...

Nah, I've been watching the site since around the turn of the century. It was boring to start with but has been dead exciting since it passed 1000. The last three years were the best bit.
I kept quiet about it, though.
Can't believe you people stumbled across it with just days to go...
