The OUYA desperately needs more compelling exclusives, and it needs them yesterday. To this end, the company has promised to match any game's Kickstarter total if it becomes a 6-month timed exclusive.
There are a few caveats, of course. Games have until August 9th to launch their Kickstarter campaign (an incredibly short window considering how much organisation a pitch requires) and must be developed within a year. Campaigns also have to reach $50,000 on their own, at which point OUYA will match the total up to $250,000.
It's a nice idea in theory, but won't convince many developers who could just as easily deploy a game on iOS or PC and reach a bigger market. Not to mention, perhaps just backing their own game and getting money for nothing. Still, considering that we want the OUYA to do well - and better - we have our fingers crossed.
I described the OUYA as a "lovely idea" in our exhaustive review, but ultimately as a "£99.99 punt."
