OUYA Release Date Pushed Back A Bit

In order to cope with demand, the OUYA micro-console will miss its original June 1st release date by three weeks.

OUYA CEO Julie Uhrman confirmed the delay to Joystiq, stating that "we’ve had incredibly positive reactions from our retail partners, and so in order to meet their greater than expected demand, we decided to shift the launch date by a couple of weeks – three weeks – which will allow us to create more units and, basically, have more units on store shelves in June." The revised release date is June 25th in the US.

My inner cynic tells me that extra time might also be needed to brush up the interface, secure some more games and improve the controller - which early reviews have panned as laggy, uncomfortable and fragile. I can't attest to any of these things because MY BACKER EDITION HASN'T EVEN BEEN DISPATCHED YET GODDAMN IT [go have a lie down, Jon - Ed].

I agree it sounds likely they want to polish it a bit more. From what I've seen, early reviews seem to be largely positive in a "this has potential" way rather than a "this is brilliant" way. And I believe they slashed the projected number of launch games from 400 to 100 a while back.
So long as xbmc is stable on it and it has a handful of fairly decent games I'm still very much interested.

But they can't afford to keep pushing back the release of a Tegra 3 device just as Tegra 4 hits the market.
