Following In Capcom's Controversial Footsteps
The games industry has declared wholesale war on the pre-owned market by implementing online passes, but Resident Evil: Mercenaries on the 3DS recently came under fire for featuring a different deterrent to buying a used copy. Its save file, achievements and high scores can't be deleted by all but the most diabolical workarounds, sparking massive public controversy and many retailers simply refusing to stock it.
We believed that this was the last we'd ever see of this ridiculous, lazy, self-destructive bullsh*t (sod the impartiality)... but Namco Bandai plan to adopt the same system in their upcoming Pac-Man & Galaga Dimensions compilation. Not only does this mean that the achievements and high scores can never be reset, but it also means that multiple players can't compete on the same card. We can't work out why Namco Bandai aren't just releasing it on the eShop if they don't want to provide us with any resale value. Prepare for an incoming rant later this week. [Wired]
