Overkill Software has confirmed that a sequel to PC and PSN shooter Payday: The Heist is in the works. This follows the news that Syndicate and Chronicles Of Riddick developer Starbreeze plans to buy out the studio, while promising to "grow the first Payday" and nuture a second game.
Starbreeze boss Mikael Nermark revealed their plan to Eurogamer, speaking highly of Overkill Software's lineup.
They will still continue to grow the first Payday, to enhance that experience, and move to the sequel. They're doing great stuff, and I'm not going to change that in any way. We're going to give them the creative freedom to do what they've done so well. We're broadening our portfolio. With this acquisition we will also be stronger in the eyes of a publisher. It's one part of what we want to do.
The deal will go through once Starbreeze's shareholders okay the decision, which is bound to be very soon. We'll keep you posted.
