Crime scene investigation and courtroom sims are few and far between, but when you want to be sure of a great game there's only one name to rely on. Phoenix Wright has now been defending the innocent and keeping Brylcreem in business for almost a decade- and the the series' popularity has ensured that prices have stayed very high for the duration. However, Play.com is now selling Phoenix Wright: Trials and Tribulations for £9.99, which is just under £8 cheaper than its nearest competitor (The Hut).
(Amazon Jersey is also offering the same price too.)
Trials and Tribulations is the third game in the popular Phoenix Wright series and religiously sticks to the classic formula that made its predecessors so engrossing. You'll scour crime scenes for clues, interrogate witnesses and bring all of your evidence together in a tense courtroom standoff where every objection counts. The gameplay is instantly accessible, blending traditional point and click mechanics and scripted dialog options with a health bar system that depletes every time you make a mistake or have an objection overruled. Interacting with the cast both in and out of the trial is a real highlight, since each character has their own distinct personality quirks that'll make you genuinely care whether or not you lose the case. Trust me, it won't take long until the kinked and enigmatic Prosecutor Godot gets under your skin!
My only real objection to Trials and Tribulations is that it doesn't really bring anything new to the table. It doesn't utilise any of the DS hardware gimmicks to advantage, and occasionally holds back the player's progress because they haven't completed a particular (and occasionally oblique) task. Nevertheless, it's still a solid and enjoyable title that's now finally reached a decent price.
