Pirates: Hunt for Blackbeard's Booty may be more "arrrgh!" than "y'ahhhhh!" but at least it is cheap. In fact, Shop To's current price is not only under a fiver but it even takes a cutlass to the next best price of £9.98 from GamePlay and slices it in half!
The Wii is a treasure trove for lame mini game collections but Hunt for Blackbeard's Booty is something pretty special: a mini-game collection which only contains five mini games. You get "Sword Fighting" which is just what it sounds: a duelling game in which you have access to a whole three moves, performed with swings of the Wii remote; "Row Row Row for Your Life" in which you race around a course, collecting treasure as you go; "Treasure Hunters" pits two teams against each other, trying to collect treasure and return it to their respective bases; "Winds of the Wavy Sea" is basically a Capture the Flag free for all and "Squidball Sabotage" which is basically a virtual croquet game with, err, squid.
If any of these games sound like fun, rest assured that they are not. The controls are shoddy, with the moves which appear in Sword Fighting in particular rarely resembling the actions which you are attempting to create with the Wiimote, and the events have no sense of excitement, tension or fun. The graphics are also poor and the load screens frequent and frustrating. All in all there's really very little to be taken away from Pirates: Hunt for Blackbeard's Booty and even at less than £5, it's best you steer in the opposite direction.
