Planet 51 £4.99 @ Gameplay & Gamestation [Xbox 360 Games]

Planet 51 isn't a great game by any stretch of the imagination, but it's certainly very cheap. Gameplay and Gamestation are retailing at £4.99, which will save you £2.86 compared to their nearest competitor (ShopTo, in this case). This deal certainly isn't for everyone... but as we'll discuss, two types of gamer will get a kick out of this one.

Two kinds of people will want to take advantage of this deal. Let's start with Planet 51 fans. Whilst this isn't a stellar example of game design, Planet 51 actually provides a varied and well-paced experience by offering a selection of missions and open-world levels to roam around. You'll be able to explore on foot or hop on a jetbike, and a mess of minigames and hidden collectibles significantly increase the value for film fans. CG cutscenes lifted straight from the film serve to create an authentic atmosphere. Planet 51 is definitely aimed at younger gamers, but it's still a fairly entertaining little adventure that'll inoffensively kill some time.

The second type of gamer that will benefit from this deal are achievement junkies (or scorewhores, depending on your point of view). Planet 51 has a staggeringly simple selection of achievements and will net you a fairly effortless 1000G if you're willing to put in the time. Whilst many hardcore gamers frown upon the practice of padding one's gamerscore with cheap titles, we won't judge you here. In fact, I've got 1000G of Enchanted Arms achievements buried somewhere in my list... you're in good company.

For a film tie-in, Planet 51 is a surprisingly capable little game that might just surprise you (or at least give your kids something to do for a while). For a fiver, you can't really go wrong.
