Just when we thought Planetary Annihilation couldn't get any bigger, seeing as it already lets you smash entire planets into each other, Uber Entertainment's ridiculous Kickstarted RTS has added a massive procedurally-generated singleplayer mode.
The Galactic War Update lets you start out in a galaxy of randomly assigned worlds, enemies and perks, with players able to tweak the "scale and intensity" of the battle to their specifications. "In Galactic War, you’re placed in control of a reawakened Commander with a limited tech tree," Uber explains. "By exploring and fighting across the new mode's procedurally generated systems, you’ll collect new technology, discover special abilities, and battle against cunning AI Commanders. Strategic flexibility and creativity are required."
Sounds promising. Planetary Annihilation has received numerous updates since my last encounter, so a fresh new preview is overdue. I'll get cracking on that.
To celebrate, Planetary Annihilation has been slashed down from £29.99 to £17.99 over the weekend. It's still in early access, but if you're a fan of Total Annihilation or Supreme Commander, this is a fusion of both taken to an insane conclusion. In a good way.
