More PlanetSide 2 Info & Trailer Emerges

We reported a few days ago that PlanetSide 2 has been officially announced by Sony Online Entertainment, and during the opening day of the SOE Fan Faire in Las Vegas (which was happening during the early hours of this morning) we not only got further information on the upcoming MMOFPS, but an in-game trailer to go with it.

The trailer shows the three different sides going at it on the planet of Auraxis like the good old days; the totalitarian Terran Republic (in red), the anti-establishment New Conglomerate (in blue), and the technology-obsessed Vanu Sovereignty (in purple). As well as the usual infantry engagement, VS tanks are shown lobbing artillery fire, various aircraft fly overhead (including a returning Galaxy drop ship ready to rain some hurt) and the inclusion of iron sights for guns were shown.

The FAQ on the official website goes on to confirm that thousands of players will be battling it out simultaneously for control of the numerous bases and towers, and that different roles will be available with “deep skill trees.” While not confirmed directly, it is stated that “several classic roles” from the original PlanetSide will be returning, suggesting that new roles will be thrown into the mix as well.

There is still no information as to when PlanetSide 2 will be released, or details on what type of business model plan the game will use, but a beta for the MMOFPS has been confirmed with existing PlanetSide players to be among the first to gain access.

That’s all for now. More information has been promised in the coming months, and we’ll be sure to keep you posted as it arrives.

So what say you Dealspwners? Do we have any former TS, VS or NC soldiers excited for the return to Auraxis? What did you think of the trailer? Sound off in the comments!
