'Play To Earn' Incentives Coming To Xbox Live Rewards

Jonathan Lester
Microsoft, Xbox Live, Xbox Live Arcade

Xbox Live Rewards members will be able to earn a few extras by playing and consuming Xbox Live Arcade games throughout April. Consume! Go on, it's fun and good for you. Consume some more, yes, yesssss.

There are three reward tiers available according to Microsoft PR Man Major Nelson

  • Play 20 hours of any combination of arcade games, receive a free avatar item
  • Purchase any four arcade games for 400 Microsoft Points or more from Xbox LIVE, receive a one month Xbox LIVE Gold membership
  • Spend 3200 Microsoft Points on arcade games, receive 800 Microsoft Points in return.

If you're an Xbox Live Rewards member, you'll automatically be eligible to participate, though remember you'll have to complete all this before the end of April to receive the rewards. Here's what's out this month, if you're interested:

  • BattleBlock Theater
  • Double Dragon II
  • Motocross Madness
  • Sacred Citadel
  • God Mode
  • Monaco

Seriously, Microsoft, PlayStation Plus is ruining you out there. Sort it.

I'm not overly impressed by that. I'm not spending £27.41 just to get some points worth £6.85. I'd be better off just buying what I want with that £6.85. I liked Xbox Rewards but they really should start introducing rewards that don't require spending far too much money for something worth far less.

PS+ is definitely putting rewards to shame. It's subscription based but I'm getting a lot of games through it, discounts on the PS Store and cloud saves sync while my console is off while updates do the same thing.

I'm fine with Gold at the moment but Xbox Rewards needs to up its game at the moment.

It's funny how they're calling it "play to earn" yet only one of the rewards is for playing, the others are just the same deals they usually have - getting money back on multiple purchases.
