'A Celebration Of Great Characters & Rich Worlds'
Sony has officially announced PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale, the heavily-leaked 2D brawler starring familiar characters from throughout their first-party lineup. We've got the full story, trailer and new screenshots below.
Revealing all today on the PlayStation Blog, Superbot's game director Omar Kendall describes PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale as "a celebration of a storied history of great characters and rich worlds brought together in one game." Players will be able to take a wield a selection of familiar PlayStation characters in hectic 2D battles, with accessible four-player cooperative modes being the major draw. Much like Super Smash Bros, then, but with Parappa The Rapper, Sweet Tooth, Kratos, Fat Princess and other beloved characters.
PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale existed as an idea in the hearts of gamers way before SuperBot got around to making it, and the expectations of the fans are really what drive us. This game is a labor of love, and we're excited to be able to finally show it.
There are probably a few types of games that can be enjoyed by four players simultaneously, but for us at SuperBot, a brawler was the obvious choice for one really good reason: the developers here at SuperBot really like fighting games.
Online play will feature a fully-fledged tournament mode, while single-screen offline modes will offer both competitive and cooperative gametypes. Apparently the gameplay will focus on being accessible yet deep, catering for both hardcore fans and casual players.
With PlayStation All Stars Battle Royale, we set out to make an experience accessible enough for all PlayStation fans to enjoy while also creating something deep enough for the serious fighting game aficionado. We think this “accessible yet deep” strategy is the perfect way to bring PlayStation fans of all stripes together.
PlayStation All Stars Battle Royale has been confirmed as a PS3 exclusive, and we'll learn more at E3.
