Hot on the heels of Microsoft's 'Buy 4, Get 5' initiative with Xbox LIVE's Summer of Arcade, Sony announced that they'll be launching a rival promotion, under the moniker 'Playstation Network Play'.
Starting on August 24th, the new programme will work much like Microsoft's, seeing the release of a game every Wednesday for four weeks, and gifting players a fifth if they purchase all four before September 20th.
PSNP kicks off with Street Fighter III Third Strike Online Edition followed by DeathSpank: The Baconing on August 31st. A week later Majesco's vampiric, claret-soaked platformer BloodRayne: Betrayal lands on September 7th, with Sega's Renegade Ops bringing things to a close on September 14th. If you snaffle up all four before September 20th, you'll get PayDay: The Heist for free when it drops on October 5th and if you're a Playstation Plus member, you'll be able to get 20% knocked off all of the games until September 20th too.
There are a few DLC incentives too, that will apprently increase depending on how early you put your money down for each. Pre-orders open on August 10th (closing the Thursday before each game launches) and the DLC rewards are as follows:
- Street Fighter III Third Strike Online Edition: Unlocks Gill without having to complete the game.
- DeathSpank: The Baconing: Unlocks Roesha for use in co-op.
- BloodRayne: Betrayal: Avatar item for PS Home.
- Renegade Ops: Vehicle and Character Pack
What do you guys think about this? Welcome initiative or copycat pointlessness? Does it matter that the games for PSNP aren't platform exclusives? Will you be taking part? Let us know in the comments below.
