Gold and Silver were the closest that the Pokémon series has come to revolution, introducing new features such as the change to full colour support, Pokémon breeding, an internal clock and PokéGear. I am delighted to see them remade for a new generation of hand-held console and fans but it would have been nice to see the same sort of overhaul to the formula that the original games involved.
HeartGold and SoulSilver are due to be released on the 26th of March but, for Pokémon nerds like myself, shops are now beginning to offer the games for pre-order. Shop To are ahead of the pack, asking just £26.85, over £7 down from the next best price at HMV.

As excited as I am about the games themselves, it's the accompanying gizmo that has really put the ants in my pants. The Pokéwalker is a Pokéball shaped pedometer which connects to the game via infra-red and can house a single Pokémon. When you have a Pokémon safely holed up in your walker, you can increase its experience and how much it likes you simply by taking the walker everywhere you go as you potter around on your day to day business.
The games have also been updated with new mini-game "Pokéthlon", in which the player pits their Pokémon against others in a series of events such as hurdling, making use of the DS's touch screen capabilities.
Other than these things and a graphics overhaul, the games are pretty much identical to their original counterparts but that won't stop suckers like me from being ridiculously excited.
