Pokemon Rumble U may only be slated for a Japanese release, but it's noteworthy for two reasons. First of all, it's the first Pokemon game to release exclusively on the Wii U. Secondly, however, it will also launch with a range of collectible Pokemon figurines, who can be transported into the game using Skylanders-style Near Field Communications tech. It's all built into the Wii U Gamepad, meaning that no extra peripherals will be required.
Pokemon Rumble U will need to change its vending machine distribution to successfully make its way West, but with Disney Infinity following in Skylanders' footprints, it's likely that the Wii U will see plenty more NFC cross-media games over the coming years. You can watch the functionality in action in a new trailer after the break. Would you pay for something similar?
