Pre-Orders for Star Wars: The Old Republic Go Live

Yesterday’s Collector’s Edition Leak Proves True

We brought you the news yesterday of a leaked picture on NeoGAF that detailed the Collector’s Edition for Bioware’s upcoming MMORPG Star Wars: The Old Republic. We can now confirm that this news was entirely true, as EA announced via Twitter this morning that pre-orders for the highly-anticipated title have gone live on the official website.

As detailed on the pre-order page, the Collector’s Edition contains all the goodies we were expecting, including a statue of Darth Malgus from the game and plenty of in-game items to help you on your way. We’re still waiting to confirm how much the retailers on our shores are going to be charging for the bundle, and will update this article as soon as well know.

UPDATE: A listing for the Collector's Edition has now appeared on the Game website, listing the bundle at £129.99.

However, EA have also taken the opportunity to throw its new downloadable service into the mix, and have also started taking pre-orders via Origin. A Standard Edition (which will also be available from other retailers) is available at the price of £44.99, and as expected a Digital Deluxe Edition is also available with all of the in-game extras of the Collector’s Edition for £59.99. Both digital pre-orders require a payment of £5 upfront.

Regardless of which version is chosen, those who pre-order will get 30 days of subscription, an in-game item called the Color Stone that will change the colour of your lightsabre or blaster bolts, and by registering the pre-order code on the official website there will be gain early access to the MMO before it officially launches, although at this time no release date has been given.

There have been quite a few debates regarding pre-order bundles on Dealspwn recently, so let’s hear you. Is this a overpriced? Will you be putting down your cash regardless? Does anyway actually want to statue? Get involved, sound off in the comments!
