Project Phoenix Kickstarter Closes, Tops A Million Dollars

10x Original Target, But Will It Be Enough?

Project Phoenix has successfully raised over $1 million at the end of its Kickstarter campaign, having originally sought just $100,000 to get the ball rolling.

The indie JRPG developed by AAA genre veterans (including Final Fantasy composer Nobuo Uematsu) has increased its war chest tenfold, which bodes well now that the project can move towards its projected 2014 release date on PC, PS4 and PS Vita.

However, despite this impressive feat, we still feel that a million Dollars is still a very optimistic budget for two years of development on an ambitious cross-platform RPG. Most games of this scale require significantly more, without taking marketing and production into account, so we hope that Creative Intelligence Arts will budget effectively. Fingers crossed, because its promise of strong characters, hand-drawn artwork and real-time strategic combat sounds fantastic.
