Microsoft dropped some new Project Spark details during their Gamescom showcase, such as the ability to create your own custom animations for characters by using Kinect's full-body scanning. Many of these features can be seen in motion thanks to a new community montage that illustrates the depth of the free-to-play game creation toolkit headed to Xbox One and Windows 8.
Voice and motion capture enables:
- Facial Expression Capture – Users can record their face and have it applied to an in-game character
- Animation Recording – Do a new attack, full body motions, gestures, etc.
- Record audio and modulate – Speak a line, singing, etc. Modulate the sounds in a variety of ways
Project Spark is easily the most ambitious Xbox One title announced so far: effectively a game creation toolkit that lets players design entire worlds and script entire games in numerous different genres. Apparently the team has even managed to get a fully-fledged homage to X-Wing vs TIE Fighter up and running...
We hope that the project will live up to its potential, as it's one of the few next-gen games that genuinely promises something truly new and innovative rather than relying on shiny graphics to peddle the same old stuff. Fingers crossed.
